Equinox 10k

7 down, 3 to go!

We did the Equinox 10km this weekend. Once again, the lovely Vicky and Vanessa Swain joined us for this event at Belvoir Castle in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The route was very scenic with some tough hills to tackle and a lot of competitive runners involved!

Best of all, we got medals!

We now have just 3 challenges remaining and can confirm that Vicky and Vanessa will be joining us for all of them. They will be the Leicester Half Marathon with plenty other Edgar’s Gift runners on 26th October, the Winter Wolf Run on 1st/2nd November and the Santa Run on the 7th December!

Wish us luck for the final hurdle. Please sponsor what you can at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/edgarsteam

The one where we ran into branches

So The Twilight Run happened this weekend and we had the lovely Vicky and Vanessa Swain joining us!

Now we were all under the impression that we were given head torches when we arrived…. No, no, no we were supposed to bring them with us!

Anyway we figured it won’t get that dark, we’re starting at 6.40pm.

Idiots – it was pitch black particularly in the forests!

We were running into branches, falling over, scraping our knees, injuring our ankles, legs, arms, fingers, toes and having the best time!

It was so much fun getting muddy, climbing over fences, walls, doing the monkey bars, carry tyres, running through fields forests slithering like snakes through tunnels and face first in mud. Wading through lakes, streams and bogs, balancing on beams, climbing over hay bales. It was fab!

Thanks so much for joining us Vick and Ness and thank you for your help increasing donations and sponsors.

This is now challenge 6 of 10 completed! If you are able to sponsor us that would be greatly appreciated, please visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/edgarsteam

The Colour Run

Wow it was soo colourful! We had a great time at The Colour Run and would highly recommend anyone who wants to take part in an event next year to get involved with this (make sure you take a spare of every item of clothing).

Some of our photos are shown below, particularly love the one of our mascot Ellie the Golden Retriever getting involved pre-event photos!

Bungee jump is less than a week away now – yikes!

The Colour Run

Ahh we’ve just found out about a new event that we think we might just have to add to our list of 10 Challenges! The Colour Run in Birmingham looks like a fantastic opportunity to get really messy and colourful all in the name of charity. Not sure if the aim is to get as colourful as possible or finish the 5km in a short time, nevertheless we cannot wait…

The run takes place on 16th August and will be the 3rd of our 10 challenges. To sponsor us make sure you visit our Virgin Money page at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/edgarsteam

Thanks for all of your support so far we’re so grateful for everyone who has sponsored us 🙂

The Wolf Run – we did it!

We made it through The Wolf Run and what a challenge it was! We lost count of the amount of obstacles we had to conquer but there were tractor tyres, woods, walls, ropes, balance beans, so many muddy areas, three lakes to swim through and many rivers to wade through!

It was such a great experience. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. Below are some photographs from the day as well as our latest article in the Leicester Mercury who came to photograph us on the day :).

Edgar’s Gift challenge t-shirts!

So, normally you have to have been there, done that and then you get your t-shirt but thanks to K Kong Events we have got our t-shirts before our events have started!

Lydia Edkins and Sarah Jelly are taking on 10 challenges in 2014 to raise money for Edgar's Gift

T-shirts donated by King Kong Events

To give you an update of what we’ve been doing in our fabulous new tees, last week Lydia conquered her seven mile run to work which is absolutely fantastic – very impressed with this! She also managed to get her bike fixed this weekend and will be back on that this week.

I completed a more modest four mile run and managed a personal best for average running pace at 8 minutes 40 seconds per mile.

We both ran just under five miles on Sunday morning. We were hoping that we might kickstart our tans however, the clouds were persistent and the sun didn’t grace us with its presence until the very end of the run – typical.

Both of us have been tackling the infamous Insanity workouts. We’re starting to feel our muscles awaken and see some muscle definition coming along which will be absolutely essential for the harder obstacle course challenges we will be taking on in the summer.

Another activity we have been contemplating this week to add to our other challenges is walking across hot coals – if anyone has any suggestions of where to do this please do get in touch by commenting below or messaging us on Facebook.

Our first event is on Sunday and it’s the Superhero Fun Run. If you’d like to get involved with this event yourself you can still sign up on the website. We’d love to see your support if you want to come and watch us it’s on Abbey Park in Leicester. We’ll post some pictures of our costumes later in the week!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors so far on our Giving page. Please do get donating, ALL the money we raise will go to charity as we are completely funding the events ourselves.

P.S. We’re open to suggestions for our events. If there’s anything in particular you think we could be doing either while we are doing activities or in between the events to encourage more donations please let us know!

Signing up for events!

This week we have signed up for our first four events in our 10 event challenge for Edgar’s Gift.

Lydia and Sarah

The first event is the Superhero Fun Run on 6th April in Abbey Park Leicester. We will be dressed as The Incredibles characters running 5km for our first event this year – an easy and fun way to kick off the events (plus a great use for old fancy dress costumes). Find out more about this event at www.superherofunrun.co.uk.

The next event which we have booked is The Wolf Run. Described as ‘Wild Running’ we will run 10km through woods, lakes, off road and obstacles. This event takes place on 15th June and will require a lot of training! www.thewolfrun.com

We have also signed up for Mudderella on 30th August. Between 5 and 7 miles long this will be our longest run so far in 2014. It’s a muddy obstacle course for women and looks absolutely fantastic! We found this event on Facebook and wanted to sign-up for the name alone. www.mudderella.com

The final event we signed up for this week is the Leicester Half Marathon and yes my fingers are trembling and my face is wincing at the simple thought of participating in this event. This is sure to be a challenge and we are determined to complete the event in two hours or less. www.leicestermarathon.org.uk

So there we have it – our first four of ten events we will be participating in for Edgar’s 10 Challenges to raise money for Edgar’s Gift. We will keep everyone updated with our progress and other events as we book them. Wish us luck and get donating. uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/edgarsteam

P.S. We’re open to suggestions for our events. If there’s anything in particular you think we could be doing either while we are doing the activities or in between the events to encourage more donations please let us know either by commenting on the blog or messaging us on Facebook.

Edgar’s Gift is a charity set up in 2010 in memory of Ben Edkins, who passed away following a year long fight with cancer. He was just 25 when he died after battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of muscle cancer.

The charity was founded by Ben’s parents Julie and Neil Bradman, alongside Ben’s family and friends – all of whom Ben influenced and had a special and positive effect on their lives.

Edgar’s Gift aims to raise money to enable us to provide special days out, unique experiences and luxury gifts for young adults aged 18-30 who are suffering from cancer.
