The Wolf Run – we did it!

We made it through The Wolf Run and what a challenge it was! We lost count of the amount of obstacles we had to conquer but there were tractor tyres, woods, walls, ropes, balance beans, so many muddy areas, three lakes to swim through and many rivers to wade through!

It was such a great experience. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us. Below are some photographs from the day as well as our latest article in the Leicester Mercury who came to photograph us on the day :).

Tips for motivating yourself to work out – The Results!

Feeling fresh today, perhaps it’s because I’ve been drinking far too much caffeine during my free time or could it be to do with the fact I’m back on track with the workouts thanks to motivational tips in the last blog?

Naturally as any person lacking motivation to workout would, I began with the best workout tip EVER:

Take Breaks – Monday morning I rewarded myself with a break for the fact that I spent so much time researching the top tips for working out.  *Round of applause* for achieving my first motivational step for working out?

On the Tuesday I accidentally tagged teamed two of the motivational tips by relieving stress and making it fun. Aha, I’m sure you’re probably not wondering how these two fit together but I’m going to tell you anyway – I coached gymnastics all day. 8.00am until 8.30pm! Trying to get 30 reception aged children to perform teddy bear rolls on a total of just 8 mats available is very stressful but also highly amusing so two birds one stone, feeling good :).

Wednesday came around and feeling pretty darn exhausted from the Tuesday I had big plans to stay in bed and play Borderlands on the Xbox all day long. Although I followed through with this plan I still took one hour out to do my Insanity workout which means I substituted unproductive activities with healthy ones.

Before I knew it, Thursday was upon us and as a reward for being so good all week I allowed myself another break

Oo baby it’s Friday – following a horrendous trip into town in the morning, I’m sure that driving in rush hour is one of THE MOST stressful things in the world, my workout was a great way to relieve the stress I was feeling. Yelling at Shaun T the guy from the Insanity videos really helped relieve stress. 

On Saturday Lydia and I took a run together and it was great because we’d both had time off from working out so following through with the whole run was a lot easier to have each other to motivate ourselves. Running with a friend is definitely my favourite motivational tip for working out.

I’ve not yet tried to hypnotise myself partly because I’ve not been on my own to really concentrate and get in the zone and partly because I’m scared I’m going to turn myself into a chicken for the rest of my life… Also I’ve not tried sleeping in my workout clothes so these are both on the agenda for future motivational activities!

The Important Stuff

The Wolf Run is in just over four weeks! Arghhhhh!

Man Flu and Self Pity

Ok, ok, we have a confession to make. We’ve not been working out very much at all recently and we feel that we owe everyone an explanation.

There has been some severe cases of man flu in our household and we’ve been slacking. Wallowing in self-pity and gorging on inappropriate foods such as chocolate pancakes at 10.30pm on Sunday evenings and yes, there have been trips to the Golden Arches for the most delightful bundles of joy ever to come out of McDonalds – Mozzarella Dippers.

So, to get ourselves back on track I’ve been researching top tips to motivate yourself for exercise and I’m going to try a new one every day for a week and see what works.

Below are some tips I will be trying, if anyone has any ideas please do comment on this blog with suggestions.

1. Wear your workout clothes to bed.
The idea behind this one is so when you get up in the morning you don’t have to worry about getting dressed, just roll out of bed and straight into your workout. Can imagine this will be slightly uncomfortable.

2. Relieve stress.
So if I’m reading this right I’m going to need to find something that really stresses me out and then go exercise to forget about it and feel better. Shouldn’t be too difficult.

3. Hypnotise yourself.
I’m particularly looking forward to this one. I watched Big Kids when I was younger so I’m pretty sure I’ve got this down.

4. Substitute unproductive activities with healthy ones.
I’m not sure how I’ll be able to play Tippy Tap on my iPhone while exercising but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

5. Run with a friend.
Any takers?

6. Make it fun.
I’m thinking obstacle courses. This one could be interesting.

7. Take breaks.
Love this one.

Heroic end to our first challenge

On Sunday, 6th April, feeling a little tender from birthday celebrations the night before, we braved the Superhero Fun Run in Abbey Park, Leicester.

Dressed in our Incredibles outfits we were excited to take on our first event of Edgar’s 10 Challenges. Firstly, neither of us realised how fantastic Abbey Park is! It’s deceptively big and the lakes were filled with ducks and swans while the parks were filled with families, a fun fair and plenty of sporting action.

After a quick photo shoot with the fantastic Matt Stokes (@yogavenger) who came up with lots of poses for us to do while our brains were still waking up, we headed down to the starting line.

Now, for those of you who haven’t ran with us before, Lydia and I really aren’t the most sensible of runners because we like to gossip while we run which uses up quite a lot of your energy. Our hot topic of conversation for this run was what we were going to get from McDonalds when this is over. (Other fast food restaurants are available).

(Although, apparently we didn’t discuss this enough because Lydia still fell apart when she ordered her food and couldn’t make a decision!)

Anyway, we managed to be the first women to finish the race and we weren’t that far behind the few men who finished before us so woohoo!

Our next event is currently The Wolf Run on 15th June which is a 10km ‘wild running’ course which involves off-road running, lake swimming *shudder* (I have an irrational fear of sharks and icebergs in open water, oh and that I’m going to tread on a fish) and general obstacles. We’re still deciding on some dates for the other events so this might change.

Edgar’s Gift challenge t-shirts!

So, normally you have to have been there, done that and then you get your t-shirt but thanks to K Kong Events we have got our t-shirts before our events have started!

To give you an update of what we’ve been doing in our fabulous new tees, last week Lydia conquered her seven mile run to work which is absolutely fantastic – very impressed with this! She also managed to get her bike fixed this weekend and will be back on that this week.

I completed a more modest four mile run and managed a personal best for average running pace at 8 minutes 40 seconds per mile.

We both ran just under five miles on Sunday morning. We were hoping that we might kickstart our tans however, the clouds were persistent and the sun didn’t grace us with its presence until the very end of the run – typical.

Both of us have been tackling the infamous Insanity workouts. We’re starting to feel our muscles awaken and see some muscle definition coming along which will be absolutely essential for the harder obstacle course challenges we will be taking on in the summer.

Another activity we have been contemplating this week to add to our other challenges is walking across hot coals – if anyone has any suggestions of where to do this please do get in touch by commenting below or messaging us on Facebook.

Our first event is on Sunday and it’s the Superhero Fun Run. If you’d like to get involved with this event yourself you can still sign up on the website. We’d love to see your support if you want to come and watch us it’s on Abbey Park in Leicester. We’ll post some pictures of our costumes later in the week!
